Overview
Laura Browning is a San Francisco Bay Area painter whose work centers on the shifting play of light across water. Working in oil, she captures fleeting reflections, soft gradients, and the subtle movement of tide and surface, creating paintings that hover between realism and abstraction. Her compositions begin with direct observation but evolve into distilled atmospheres, where color, luminosity, and repetition become the primary language. Through layered glazing and controlled transitions of tone, Browning builds depth that feels immersive rather than illustrative. The work invites slow looking, encouraging viewers to notice variations in light, texture, and rhythm that might otherwise go unseen. Rooted in both technical discipline and sensory awareness, her paintings offer quiet meditations on perception and memory.
