Dylan Martinez's "Janus" is a contemporary glass sculpture from his Optical Series, featuring a complex arrangement of transparent cylindrical forms oriented in opposing directions. The work takes its name from Janus, the Roman god traditionally depicted with two faces looking in opposite directions, a reference reflected in the sculpture's dual-facing composition. Through its intersecting arrangement of glass elements, "Janus" creates an intricate network of reflections, refractions, and visual distortions that shift as the viewer moves around the work. The highly polished surfaces capture and redirect surrounding light, revealing unexpected patterns and fragmented perspectives within the transparent structure. Combining geometric precision with optical experimentation, "Janus" explores how a single sculptural form can present multiple visual experiences depending on the direction from which it is viewed.
