Brosse Arrêtée Bleue features a dense ultramarine brushstroke suspended within an ornate Baroque-inspired frame adorned with carved floral motifs and cherubic figures. The vivid blue pigment rises vertically through the center of the composition, culminating in the paintbrush itself, which remains embedded in the work. Gathered white fabric at the base introduces a theatrical element while emphasizing the contrast between the richly textured paint and the pristine surface surrounding it.
Part of Jean-Paul Donadini's celebrated Brosse Arrêtée series, the work transforms the gesture of painting into a permanent sculptural form. By incorporating the brush directly into the composition, Donadini collapses the distinction between tool, process, and finished artwork. The juxtaposition of contemporary materials with an elaborate historic frame is a recurring feature of his practice, creating a dialogue between classical ornamentation and bold, physical abstraction.
