Blue and gray lines move across the warm, understated surface of Jonathan Todryk’s “To Hear The Birds And Silence Speak.” Todryk builds the composition through overlapping arcs, vertical marks, geometric fragments, and loosely drawn forms, allowing some gestures to remain crisp while others fade into the painted ground. The density of the drawing increases across the center and lower portion of the canvas, creating a web of intersecting lines against quieter areas of cream and muted color. Characteristic of Todryk’s contemporary abstract paintings, the work retains the immediacy of drawing while revealing layers of revision, erasure, and accumulated mark-making.
