“I just wanted to find out where the boundaries were. So far I've found there aren’t any. I just wanted to be stopped, and no one will stop me.” - Damien Hirst

Emerging in the late 1980s as a leading member of the Young British Artists (YBA) movement, Hirst quickly became known for his bold, confrontational works that challenged traditional ideas about art, value, and spectacle. Alongside artists such as Tracey Emin, Jenny Saville, and Angus Fairhurst, he helped to reshape the British art scene in the 1990s with work that was both conceptually ambitious and visually striking. Hirst’s works spans a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, and large-scale installation. A consistent hallmark of his work is a fascination with systems, repetition, and the aesthetics of science and medicine. He has since become one of the most commercially successful and widely debated artists of his generation.

  • "Love" Series

Damien Hirst’s Love butterfly series is part of his long-standing fascination with butterflies, which he has used since the 1990s as powerful symbols of life, death, beauty, and the soul. The Love series consists of prints and sometimes small-scale works made with butterfly wings arranged in symmetrical, mandala-like patterns—often forming the shape of a heart or incorporating heart motifs. The Love butterfly pieces belong to Hirst’s broader exploration of themes like the tension between beauty and death. The butterflies—beautiful but short-lived—mirror the fleeting nature of love and life itself.

  • "Cherry Blossom" Series

Damien Hirst’s Cherry Blossom prints are a series of works derived from his larger Cherry Blossoms painting project, which he created between 2018 and 2020. These vibrant, densely layered images reinterpret a classic art historical motif—blossoming trees—through Hirst’s contemporary lens, blending elements of Impressionism, Pointillism, and Abstract Expressionism. Hirst explores the dualities of beauty and decay, celebration and impermanence—common themes in his broader body of work. The cherry blossom, a symbol of fleeting beauty in Japanese culture, fits well into these existential meditations.
