Paul Kuntze’s “Fresko 98” fills the canvas with sweeping formations of blue, lavender, blush, and deep navy, building an atmospheric composition that appears to expand and dissolve across the surface. Rounded, cloud-like forms are layered with smaller gestural marks that twist, scatter, and emerge from within them, creating intricate areas of movement against the open blue ground. Kuntze balances dense passages of painted detail with generous negative space, allowing the composition to feel expansive despite its complexity. Part of the artist’s ongoing “Fresko” series, the painting highlights Kuntze’s distinctive approach to contemporary abstraction through fluid forms, saturated color, and meticulously layered gestures.
