Jeremy Booth & Catie Cook open their new solo exhibitions

On view at Square One Gallery

This past Friday Square One Gallery opened it's doors to welcome guests to experience Jeremy Booth's second solo exhibition with the gallery "Tough Luck", and St. Louis based artist Catie Cook's debut exhibition "For Sport".

Guests also sat for a panel discussion with both artists, along with multi-hyphenate curator and collector Ronnie Pirovion, on the inspiration behind their exhibitions, as well as discussion on how creativity and art can be influenced, as well as influence.

Tough Luck presents a new body of paintings that further distill Booth’s approach to image-making. While the subject matter remains rooted in the American West, the work reflects a heightened sense of clarity, control, and restraint, with each composition reduced to its most essential elements. Figures are isolated within fields of color and shadow, where light becomes a defining structure rather than a descriptive detail. Rather than following a single narrative, the exhibition unfolds as a progression, where each work stands independently while contributing to a broader evolution in Booth’s process and perspective.

In her solo presentation, For Sport, Cook examines her experiences of girlhood in the American South through the lens of performance. As the daughter of a scenic designer, her paintings reflect the language of theatre—idealized imagery and carefully constructed scenes that, though imitating reality, often feel eerie and artificial. Through the strangeness of a drape of fabric or the illusion of stage lighting, there is a lingering reminder that her characters are performing for the viewer’s gaze—a feeling emblematic of the female experience. Inspired by her upbringing in Georgia, surrounded by the pageantry of the church, debutante culture, and beauty pageants, Cook’s paintings harness the symbol of the stage as a metaphor for the performativity of gender.

Thank you to all the guests and collectors who attened and enjoyed the evening with us. Both exhibitions will be on view at Square One Gallery through July 10th, 2026
