The “A Red Lip” series brings together a group of still lifes that reflect Erika Lee Sears’s ability to capture moments that feel close, personal, and charged. Working from direct observation, Sears uses loose, confident brushwork and a focused palette to depict lipstick, glassware, shells, and table settings with a sense of immediacy and ease. Across the series, deep blues, soft neutrals, and sharp reds create a visual rhythm that feels intimate and slightly undone, where each composition holds onto the feeling of something just before or just after it happens.
Central to the series is the contrast between the organic and the manicured, where texture and surface carry the image. The heavy, waxy saturation of a red lip sits against softer, matte elements, while light shifts across reflective glass and more absorbent painted areas. The prints in this release are produced as giclée editions on archival cold press cotton rag, 300 gsm, preserving the color and surface of the original paintings. Alongside these editions, select original works from the series offer collectors a closer look at Sears’s layered paint and hand-built compositions
